Cosmo SchĂĽppel is a Germany-based media and sound artist and cultural practitioner working at the intersection of ecological research, sensory perception, and participatory formats. His practice moves between documentary observation and speculative narration, engaging with ecological systems, memories in space, environmental grief and the politics of landscapes. Working primarily with sound, installation and video in research-based methods and participatory settings, SchĂĽppel investigates sites marked by rupture—such as post-fire environments or altered ecosystems—and approaches them as sensory spaces. Through his studies at Bauhaus University-Weimar (Media Art & Design) and Humboldt University-Berlin (Cultural Studies) SchĂĽppel adopted an analytical and non-intrusive approach that focuses on listening, paying attention and analytical and poetic sense-making.Â
Next to his artistic practice Schüppel functions as a cultural maker, who opens spaces for expression, dialog and explorations. Through curatorial and production practices he sheds light on ecological and social relations. He has cofounded the SOMAPHON FESTIVAL Weimar (www.somaphon.de) and has worked with Stockwerk e.V. – Association for Ecological Art to do projects like the large scale exhibition project FLUTEN – Art, Environment, Exchange (www.fluten-weimar.de) and curated the artistic research residency AUENLand what now? in cooperation Deutsche Umwelthilfe.
